Walla Walla Winter

This was the weather at Walla Walla when I left this morning. There was ice on the my car. This time I used the snow scrapper that the rental car provided instead of my credit card to remove the ice on my windshield.
It sure did look like winter here.

I made it to Pasco safe and sound. Now waiting for my plane to Seattle, then Sacramento.

I just noticed that there was
ice in my water bottle. I left my water bottle in the car last night. It was so cold that my water froze. Nice.

At Walla Walla Today

So I was right. This was my plane to Pasco.

I'm sat right next to the propeller.

From Pasco, I drove 45 miles to get to Walla Walla. There is a pretty snow capped hills during my drive. It's too dangerous to take photos.

This is the Marcus Whitman Hotel.

This is where I got my gifts for the kids.

Pretty sunset

Walla Walla

This is my second travel assignment for work. This time Walla Walla, Washington. Mama told me that Walla Walla is famous for their onions. I will be in search for those famous Walla Walla onions.

I think this is the plane that will take me to Walla Walla.

Here are some pictures that I took from Sacramento to Seattle.

Just as we took off. A lot of farm lands in Sacramento. Seeing this view makes me want to play Sim City.

Half way through our flight.

This is nearing Seattle - thick clouds.

Getting ready to decent.

Just landed. Backdrop is the Olympic Mountains.

Pandabaren aussprechen

Pandabaren aussprechen. You might ask what it means. Eric is getting really good at making orange chicken and fried rice. I think Eric can start working on having his own German Panda Express restaurant. We will be calling it Pandabaren aussprechen-it's German for Panda Express.

Dutch Apple Pie

John requested apple pie today. We did some research online to find the best recipe. We ended up using the Joy of Cooking recipe. This is from different combination of recipes.

Before the pie went in the oven

One hour later

Two hours later

Recipe:

5 Granny Smith Apples
2 tBsp lemon juice
3/4 c sugar
3 tBsp flour
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt

Peel and cut the apple thinly.
Put in bowl. Add lemon juice, sugar, flour, cinnamon and salt. Mix thoroughly. Set aside.

Pie crust
2 1/2 c flour
2 sticks butter- cut into pieces
1 tsp sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 c shortening
1/4 c cold water

Put flour in food processor. Add butter. Pulse until combined. Add sugar, salt and shortening. Slowly drizzle water until ingredients are incorporated. Do not over mix.
Take 1/2 of the pie crust. Refrigerate if the crust is too soft. Put half of the crust on the 8-inch pie plate.

Neatly arrange sliced apple on the prepared pie crust. Pour the rest of the apple mixture juice in the pie.

Crumble
6 tbsp melted butter
2/3 cup flour
2/3 cup brown sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt

In a bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and salt. Add melted butter. Mix ingredients until incorporated. Put this mixture on the top of the pie.

Put pie in 350 degrees oven. Bake for 45 mins to 1 hour. Pie should be done when the apple is soft.

Leave the pie for 1-2 hours to cool off. Apple pie filling will not be runny when it's cooled off.

Top pie with vanilla ice cream. Enjoy!
